A Letter to My Future Child

So during one of my midterms one of my open ended assignments was to write a letter to my future child giving him or her advice. I decided that it would be cool to write a new one and post it on the blog, so here is my letter to my future little girl.

              Dear daughter,

The world is cruel. You are going to go through a lot of happy days, and you will go through a lot of hard days. Sometimes you will cry (and that is okay), and sometimes you will want to dance and sing at the top of your lungs. In this letter I am going to give you some advice on how to get through life.

It’s okay to fall in love. One day you are going to meet someone, you are going to get to know that person, you will start dating, you will go out, have fun, fall in love, and you will get your heart broken. You are going to think there is something wrong with you, I mean why else would someone break up with you right? Wrong. There is nothing wrong with you, I promise. You are going to hate yourself for crying. Dont. It is okay to cry. In fact, it’s normal. Go ahead and cry, come to me, cry to me, I won’t judge you. I get it, trust me. Your heart is going to get broken many times, guys are mean, but one day you are going to find the right one I promise.

I told my friend that falling is love is one of the scariest things in the world. This is how I personally define love. Love is when you don’t enjoy talking about something but you do it anyway because the person you love likes it. You will want to do anything to make the person you love smile. Because when you see the person you love smile you know you are making them happy in that moment, and it’s the greatest feeling in the world. You won’t understand why most guys don’t want that feeling. Why don’t they want to make someone they love smile? Better yet, why dont they fall in love? So what if you get hurt? It’s life, and life keeps going, so eventually you can move on. Falling in love with someone is probably the greatest feeling in the world, and at the end of the day it is worth getting hurt over, because for a fraction of your life you loved someone, and you were loved, and it was all worth it.

Go out with your friends. Go to parties. Dance in the rain, play in the snow. Kiss boys or girls (I don’t really care). Blast music and dance like nobody’s watching. Go out with your friends. Laugh loudly. Drink, but drink responsibly. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Make the most of your high school career. It goes by fast. Chose your friends wisely, because they are what’s going to make your life fun. Friends last forever, lovers dont.

I am going to be there with you every step of the way. I am going to try and make things as easy as possible. I will make a few mistakes, and for that I am sorry. No one is perfect right? You are going to grow up to be a beautiful little girl. You are going to have fun, be smart and adventurous. I can’t wait to meet you one day, and I can’t wait to see the places you’ll go. I love you my little angel. Always and forever.
